RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The former chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party is urging Democrats to donate to the Walter Dalton campaign for governor as the race heads into the final week.
Jerry Meek, who was chairman before David Parker took the helm of the party apparatus, told supporters he won't sugarcoat the message.
"Our state will be in trouble if Walter Dalton doesn't win," wrote Meek in a fundraising email distributed Monday afternoon. "Pat McCrory's policies will jeopardize 40 years of Democratic progress in job creation and education. Much of what you and I believe in is at risk. But Walter can’t win without our financial support. I'll take $10, $20, $50 -- whatever you can spare."
Polls have consistently shown Dalton behind by double digits to his Republican opponent Pat McCrory, the former mayor of Charlotte.
