RALEIGH, (AP) — A political committee working to get Republican governors elected nationwide already has tried to link North Carolina Democratic nominee Walter Dalton to outgoing Gov. Beverly Perdue on taxes.

Now the Republican Governors Association is trying to connect Dalton to another politician who is not popular in some circles — President Barack Obama.

The association is running a radio ad accusing Dalton of being like Obama by supporting policies that discourage enforcement of immigration laws and opposing proposals to require voters to show photo identification at the polls.

Dalton’s campaign calls the ad a lie and points to laws he supported while in the Legislature to counter the accusations.

Dalton began airing his first television commercial of the fall campaign Wednesday, while Republican rival McCrory rolled out another ad.
