RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Three Republicans who are seeking to snag seats in the U.S. Congress were given national exposure Tuesday when they spoke before the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
State Sen. David Rouzer is locked in a battle with powerful Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre for the 7th district seat. Rouzer is a conservative Republican who currently represents Johnston County in the state Senate. McIntyre is a conservative Democrat who has disagreed on a number of issues supported by most in his party.
Republican Mark Meadows is a Christian conservative who is running against Democrat Hayden Rogers for the opportunity to serve District 11, the seat currently held by retiring Congressman Heath Shuler. Rogers was chief of staff to Shuler. Redistricting has made the district a potential pickup for Republicans, according to analysts.
Republican Richard Hudson is running neck and neck in polls gauging the race against Democratic incumbent Larry Kissell.
Democrats currently have a 7-6 advantage in North Carolina's U.S. House delegation.
