RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - He has lived through the nomination experience himself, and now former President Bill Clinton is set to formally nominate his wife's one-time rival, President Barack Obama, for a second term. Clinton will lead the Democratic Party's nominating procedure with a keynote address to convention attendees in Charlotte later this summer, according to the New York Times.
Obama re-election strategist David Axelrod told the Times that Clinton will articulate the choice between Obama and his Republican opponent, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
The Times describes the relationship between the president and former president as "complicated and evolving."
In 2008, then-Sen. Obama narrowly beat then-Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party nomination in a race that saw tempers flare and egos bruised.
Former President Clinton recently heaped praise on Romney, callling his business experience a "stellar career." The Obama campaign has hammered Romney for his time in the private sector, in particular his years at venture capital firm Bain Capital.
The Charlotte Democratiac convention runs from Sept. 4 through 6. |
