Constitution Party nominee Virgil Goode said he plans to visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections on Monday to turn in paperwork and petition signatures so that he's a certified write-in candidate.

 

Goode said North Carolina's ballot access laws made it almost impossible to get his name on the ballot. A political party or independent candidate needed more than 80,000 signatures.

 

A write-in candidate for a statewide race needs just 500 signatures from qualified voters to ensure votes are counted.

 

Goode served as a Democrat, Republican and independent at different times during his 22 years in Congress.
