CHARLOTTE, (AP) — Democrats are pushing a campaign encouraging people to show their support for the party's national convention in Charlotte this summer.

But the campaign encouraging people to send in videos expressing their support comes at a time protesters say they're fighting for permits to hold a massive demonstration the weekend before the convention.

A coalition has collected petitions with more than 1,000 names demanding that Charlotte issue long-awaited permits for the Sept. 2 protest billed as the March on Wall Street South.
Organizers say they'll present the petitions to city leaders over the next two days.

A coalition organizer, George Friday, says the coalition has made multiple attempts over the last few months to get permits.

The city says it will issue permits - but is still dealing with the logistics.
