RALEIGH, (AP) — Republican Pat McCrory's North Carolina gubernatorial campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission asking it to force television stations to stop airing a commercial about his connections to a Charlotte-based business.
The TV ad that began running late last week is being bankrolled by the Democratic Governors Association, which donated money to a group called North Carolina Citizens for Progress.
An attorney for McCrory's campaign says the ad has false content and fails to identify the DGA's funding.
North Carolina Citizens for Progress sent a memo Monday to TV and cable systems saying it's complying with disclosure and disclaimer requirements. The memo also provided information the group says backs up the ad.
The ad highlights McCrory's board position on the real estate and lending business Tree.com Inc.
The McCrory campaign says WXII, an NBC affiliate serving the Greensboro-Winston/Salem-High Point media market is the latest to pull the ad. The campaign said in a previous news release that a cable system serving the Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville and Nash County markets had stopped airing the ad.
