RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - As national Democrats prepare to re-nominate President Obama at the party's convention in Charlotte late this summer, speculation is growing over whether gay marriage will be put into the party's official platform.
The debate has ensued following last week's vote in North Carolina, in which voters overwhelmingly rejected gay marriage, with 61 percent voting to approve a constitutional amendment banning it in the state and defining marriage as strictly between one man and one woman.
NBC News reporter and political analyst Chuck Todd believes the answer to the question is yes. In a May 9 tweet, Todd wrote:
"WH aides tell me it's almost a given gay marriage will be new plank in the Democratic Party platform that's passed at this year's convention."
