RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com - In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business, Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx is responding to President Obama, who mocked the sixth district congresswoman's recent comments about student loan debt during his speech at UNC-Chapel Hill on Tuesday.
Foxx tweeted a link to the Cavuto interview on Thursday.
The audience at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill hooted when the president mentioned Foxx's previous comments about students who take on high levels of loan debt. Foxx had told radio talk show host Gordon Liddy she has "very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there's no reason for that. We live in anopportunity society and people are forgetting that. You don't sit on your butt and have it dumped in your lap."
Speaking with Cavuto, Foxx said she agrees with the president that loan debt is a serious concern but said the president misrepresented her quotes and that he's simply trying to "deflect from his failed policies."
The White House maintains President Obama's speech at Carolina was a policy speech. The Republican National Committee has filed a complaint with the General Services Administration claiming the speech was part of the president's re-election campaign and, therefore, should be paid by the campaign and not the taxpayer.
