State Rep. Larry Womble announced Tuesday he will not run for re-election in District 32 in his first public comment since he was seriously injured in a car accident in December.

Womble thanked his supporters and said he has to focus on getting better.

One of Womble's signature efforts has been to get compensation for victims of a state-run forced-sterilization program Womble has not resigned from his seat, which means he can return to work on the sterilization issue, if his health permits.
