Rep. Heath Shuler Says No To Gubernatorial Run PDF Print E-mail

RALEIGH, SGRToday.com - After several days of media speculation that he was considering a run for North Carolina governor, Rep. Heath Shuler said he will not throw his hat in the ring following Gov. Beverly Perdue's stunning announcement that she will not seek re-election. Shuler is a Democrat who represents western North Carolina's 11th congressional district. 

 
“It is an honor to even be discussed as a potential candidate for such an esteemed office, but now is not my time," Shuler said in a statement.
 
Shuler's future as a member of Congress has also been the subject of speculation. Under the newly drawn congressional maps, the 11th district is leans further toward Republicans. Shuler is known as a conservative Democrat.
