RALEIGH, SGRToday.com - Wake County Board of Education member Debra Goldman announced Wednesday that she will seek the Republican nomination for State Auditor.

"I've been hailed by the news media as the watchdog for Wake County policy and finance. And now, I intend to take up that mantle on a statewide scale," she said. "As the state's fiscal watchdog," Goldman continued, "I will revolutionize the way North Carolina state government is assessed." Goldman went on to say that North Carolinians have lost faith and confidence in elected officials, which has led to cynicism about state government.

Goldman was elected to the Wake County Board of Education in 2009. She was among five Republicans who took majority control of the board following years of contentious debate over student assignment policies implemented by the Democratic board majority. In November 2011, Democrats regained control of the Wake board. Goldman's term expires in November 2013.

Goldman attended Pennsylvania State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising. She has three children and lives in Cary, a suburb of Raleigh.
