RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - After three decades on the job, Robert Gruber is set to retire June 30 as executive director of the Public Staff of the state Utilities Commission. He had planned to retire earlier but was asked by Gov. Perdue to continue through the merger of Progress Energy and Duke Energy.

The role of the Public Staff is to represent ratepayers and consumers in regulatory activities of the Utilities Commission.

Gruber has served five terms in the job, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.

Questions still remain before the Utilities Commission over the utility company merger, which saw the man who had been touted as the new CEO of the new Duke Energy -- Bill Johnson -- was fired as soon as the merger was officially in place.
