RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Legislative leaders have said they will begin work on a tax reform effort next year, and that has some film industry advocates worried the state's generous film incentive package could be on the chopping block.

According to the Wilmington Star-News, members of the advisory board known as the N.C. Film Council expressed concern on Friday during a meeting at EUE/Screen Gems Studios to plan how to ensure that legislators understand the value of the film industry to state. Members believe lawmakers may not realize the incentives help support a variety of jobs such as carpenters and painters, not just highly paid actors.

"The perception out there is that it's all red carpets and cocktail parties. And that's just not true," said council member Tim Bourne, according to the paper.

The state's incentive package includes a 25 percent refundable tax credit for producers based on spending on goods, services, and other costs. The credit was boosted to 25 from 15 percent to help make North Carolina more competitive.
