RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - He is known to be friendly to the energy extraction process known as fracking, and now Lee County Commissioner James Womack will lead the state's new Mining and Energy Commission that will consider the process.

On Friday, members of the commission elected Womack as their chairman to oversee the group for two years. The panel is charged with writing regulations for the exploration of natural gas in North Carolina.

Womack is a West Point graduate.

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, Womack said during a break Friday morning: "I’m a pro-energy, pro-drilling, pro-business advocate."

Womack competed against Charlotte Mitchell for the chairmanship.
