End Of 3rd Quarter Stats: North Carolina's Mostly Male Prison Population Tops 38,000 PDF Print E-mail

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - North Carolina prisons housed 38,338 prison inmates as of September 28, 2012 according to the state Department of Correction website. The vast majority - 35,734 - are men while just 2,604 are women.

 
The number of probationers is more than two-and-a-half times larger, at 100,511. 
 
The number of people classified as post probation/parole sits at 3,611.
 
When combined, the statistics show that 142,460 people are officially connected to the Department of Correction via status as either a prison inmate, a probationer, or a post release/parolee.
