RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The North Carolina Mining and Energy Commission will hold its second meeting on Friday, Sept. 28. The group will elect officers including chairman and vice chairman, following by presentation of a proposed work plan from the state Department of Environment and Natural Services.
The Commission meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 643 of the Legislative Office Building on Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh. The meeting also will be streamed live at

The General Assembly ratified the “Clean Energy and Economic Security Act,” or Session Law 2012-143, in July. This law reconstitutes the state’s Mining Commission as the North Carolina Mining and Energy Commission and charges the commission with developing a modern regulatory program for the management of oil and gas exploration and development activities in North Carolina, including the use of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.
Information about the Mining and Energy Commission can be found online at http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/mining-and-energy-commission/home.
