CARY, (AP) — The future of the superintendent running North Carolina's largest school district may be on the line, with the Republicans who hired him saying they are disgusted with what's going on.

 

The Wake County Board of Education held a three-hour closed door session Monday to discuss a personnel issue, and they're scheduled to resume Tuesday. Three of the Republicans who hired Superintendent Tony Tata when they were in the majority say they're angry about events behind closed doors they're not allowed to discuss.

 

The former Army general was hired to carry out a new classroom assignment plan over Democratic opposition. GOP board members' decision to scrap the old plan that featured racial diversity led to protests, arrests, a federal civil rights complaint, and a threat to high schools accreditation.
