WILMINGTON, (AP) — The Wilmington Convention Center has attracted more than 65,000 people during the first full fiscal year it has been in operation.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports that center general manager Susan Eaton said Tuesday that 113 events resulted in more than 3,700 room nights sold in the city.

The $60 million center on the Cape Fear River opened in the fall of 2010.

Mayor Bill Saffo said the center helps support tourism and allows the city to attract visitors 52 weeks a year.

Construction and operations are being paid for by center revenues and an additional sales tax on hotel and motel rooms in Wilmington.
