RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Beginning Nov. 17, travelers out of Piedmont-Triad International Airport (PTI) will be able to fly non-stop three days a week to the vacation mecca of Orlando, Florida.

Allegiant Air currently serves the Orlando area, but from a smaller airport about 20 miles away in Sanford, Florida, which is about 20 miles further from Walt Disney World.

The Greensboro News-Record reports the flight is a big catch for PTI, which is situated between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, and thus has trouble laying claim to service that will attract travelers.

Henry Isaacson of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority told the newspaper that an incentive of $5 per passenger will be paid to Frontier for the next two years. The airport authority incentive is given to an airline that provides service from PTI to an airport not served.

Isaacon also said he and PTI’s executive director have been talking to Frontier for months and the two learned in June that PTI had sealed the deal.
