WILMINGTON, (AP) — Almost 400,000 travelers passed through Wilmington International Airport during the first half of the year — the strongest showing in five years.

But The StarNews reports Thursday that pace may slip in the second half of the year with preliminary numbers for July down about 6 percent.

Airport Director Joe Rosborough says the airport lost an American Airlines flight to Chicago back in April. And last month, Delta replaced three U.S. Airways flights to New York with only two flights.

He says losing the American flights and 88 seats a day is a lot for a smaller airport.

Rosborough adds the economy is still struggling, and that has affected business travel. About three quarters of the passengers through Wilmington are business fliers.
