GREENSBORO, (AP) — Andrew Carawan was close to the Greensboro Grasshoppers game.

But he won't be at a Greensboro game anytime soon.

Carawan stood for an hour Thursday night outside the stadium with a sign that apologized for the theft of a statue of one of the team's dogs that retrieve foul balls. The statue was of the black Labrador retriever Miss Babe Ruth.
The 26-year-old Carawan is making a public apology as part of a deal with prosecutors to get the charges against him reduced for taking the fiberglass statue of the dog last year. He's expected to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge in September and receive probation.

He also must pay $6,000 for a replacement.

And, he can't go to any more Grasshoppers games anytime soon.
