ELIZABETH CITY, (AP) — Park the boat out back.

Elizabeth City is considering a ban on storing boats in the front yards of homes.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported a public hearing is set Monday night on a proposal to ban boats and recreational vehicles from the front yards of homes.

But City Councilman Michael Brooks says he doesn't think much of the idea. Brooks says people who are paying their property taxes ought to be able to put their recreational vehicle or boat wherever they want on their land.

Councilwoman Jean Baker says more research is needed.

The city already prohibits the parking of boats and RVs on the street. City staff says there are concerns about traffic safety and neighborhood aesthetics.
