ROCKY MOUNT, (AP) — The city of Rocky Mount is asking residents to reduce the amount of water they are using.

The Rocky Mount Telegram reported the request for conservation of water takes effect Friday.

The city's declaration of voluntary water conservation is considered a precaution and does not require a reduction in water use.
At the moment, the Tar River Reservoir is overflowing.

The city says customers can get conservation tips and related information on the city's website, http://www.rockymountnc.gov/utilities/conservation.html .
