RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Trustees of the William Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust have announced a $1 million gift to the endowment of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Law. Trustees say the gift is to honor the contributions and memory of Dr. William Friday, who died last week at age 92. The gift will be designated to support student scholarships.

Friday served as UNC System president for three decades, retiring in 1986. Following that, he served as the first Executive Director of the Kenan Charitable Trust.

In a news release announcing the donation, Dr. Richard M. Krasno, current Executive Director, described Dr. Friday as a giant in higher education and philanthropy.  "His compassion and thoughtful approach to grant making is evident throughout North Carolina and across the U.S. We will miss him deeply."
