RALEIGH, (AP) — The leaders of North Carolina's public schools, community colleges and universities are spelling out some big financial needs for the coming legislative session.

The three leaders discussed the status of merit pay in their schools Tuesday at a meeting of the House Education Oversight Committee.

Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson says public school leaders haven't found a good pay-for-performance model in the United States yet.

UNC President Tom Ross also said the 17 campuses need more than $2 billion for renovation and repairs. Community college President Scott Ralls wants about $15 million to offer classes in some study areas during the summer.
