RALEIGH,(SGRToday.com) - A ruling from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Winston-Salem State University discriminated against its former director of academic technology in part because she is white.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that the historically black college is declining to comment on the case of Shira Hedgepeth, who filed a complaint after she was terminated in July 2011.

According to the story,  an EEOC letter on the case says mediation is the next step and that the case could go to federal court if mediation is unsuccessful.

The letter also said the university denies the allegation.

Hedgepath told the newspaper: "People need to beaware that the law works both ways and when race comes into play, it doesn't benefit anyone. Our tax dollars are supporting that. My tax money is going to an institution that teaches racism."
