In a filing released Wednesday, attorneys representing the state said evidence presented during the March trial didn't support the finding by jurors. They asked the trial judge to rule for the state.

 

A jury in Christiansburg ruled for the families of two students killed in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. They said their daughters could have survived the rampage if the Blacksburg campus was warned earlier of the first two shootings.

 

Jurors awarded the families $8 million, but damages are capped at $100,000 for each family.
