BUIES CREEK, (AP) — Campbell University's medical school is getting the go-ahead to start recruiting students as it plans to become North Carolina's fifth training institution for doctors.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports the school received provisional accreditation for its plans to train 150 primary care physicians a year and tackle a nationwide shortage.

The school will be the second largest in the state behind the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It will be the only school training osteopathic doctors, who emphasize wellness and disease prevention alongside traditional methods.

North Carolina's other three medical schools are Duke, Wake Forest and East Carolina University.
